YOUTH & BASKETBALL DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRAM
The Youth & Basketball Developmental Program (YBDP) was formed to provide youth male and female athletes (ages 8-16) from the Inner Cities of New York, Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Michigan, Tennessee and the US Virgin Islands with positive sport activities through basketball. The program includes the following: “All-Net” Invitational Basketball Camp, and Pre-season Basketball Training Series and Educational/Life-Skill Workshop Course. Each program component will provide youth athlete with in-depth instruction along with specific skills training techniques to meet individual/group course objectives. The athlete to pro ratio is 7:1 for all instructional programs. All participants are grouped according to age and ability. All student-athletes from the public/private schools including junior/high schools will be invited to participate.The programs will invite reputable basketball coaches, officials and guest speakers in addition to, NSBA, NBA/WNBA pro-athletes (past and present) to further assist student-athletes in learning and refining their basketball skills, educate them on the history of basketball, such as “Street ball”, and raise the level of awareness in other aspects of the sport that provide educational components and job opportunities.Parent involvement will be important to further encourage athletes therefore, a parent or guardian will be encouraged to attend at least each program event.PROGRAMS OFFERED:I- “All-Net” Invitational Basketball Camp- This celebrated student-athlete event is scheduled, Saturday, April 16th, 2011 from 10am-4pm. There, invited basketball clubs, organizations, city leagues and teams will participate by selecting their top male and female athlete in each division (12 & under, 14 & under and 16 & under) for a total of three (3) athletes who have maintained an 80% or higher academic standing in school from September 2011 to March 2011. Selected student-athletes will be honored and awarded in addition to receiving basketball strategies and demonstrations from some of the top basketball trainers, coaches and referees in basketball as an incentive to promote academic success. The maximum number of student-athletes allowed in each participating city program event will be 300. All student-athletes receive an award and Commemorative Gift bag with sponsor giveaways. The “All-Net” Invitational Basketball Camp will provide a networking base for student-athletes, coaches and basketball organizations to unify and combine future efforts in assisting our youth to first achieve success in school and then on the basketball court.REGISTRATION:
This program event is open to basketball organizations, clubs, and city (winter/spring/summer) leagues and teams. The NSBA will send invitations via email to all participating city organizations listed. In turn, a coach or administrator of the basketball organization must submit and acceptance letter in writing along with the names of three (3) top student-athletes (males and/or females) via email by March 30, 2011. The email address is nsbaproball@yahoo.com and please indicate city. A maximum of 100 city organizations will be accepted so event participation is based on first submission.
FEES:
A $25.00 dollar nominal fee will be charged per participating organization. This fee will cover all three (3) student-athletes and will offset program costs.
III- Pre-Season Basketball Training Series & Educational Workshops- This six (6) week instructional basketball clinic scheduled Saturdays and Sundays, 9am-1pm beginning, September 10th, 2011 through October 16th, 2011 and will provide male/female youth athletes (ages 8-16) with pre-season workout regiments to keep them physically fit, prepared for the next level of competition and upcoming basketball season. The program will include: Educational/Life-Skill Workshops on Health & Nutrition, Obesity, Conflict & Resolution, Teen Pregnancy and more issues affecting our youth. In addition, an “Exploration Workshop” created to expose athletes to other communities such as Special Populations, and other activities such as field trips and video presentations will be included. The maximum number of participants allowed in the program will be 200 per city venue.
The Pre-Season Basketball Training Series & Educational/Life-Skill Workshops will encourage athletes to exercise, and promote healthy eating habits so they can meet basketball challenges on the court, and throughout their lives.

FEES:

(NSBA) mission to keep “AMERICA READING” and help students reach their fullest potential intellectually starts at the FOUL LINE or in this instance, the first page of a book. With the CORRECT FORM being DEMONSTRATED by us (family, teachers, schools, churches, community leaders, authors and the NSBA’s league member teams) partnering and donating time to read to our youth, participating in tutor initiatives, implementing practice exams and encouraging preparation so they adopt positive study habits that will help build our students self-confidence, give them the drive to FOLLOW- THROUGH and read on. Sure, they may miss a couple of shots by misspelling some words, lack pronunciation sounds and receive some low marks on their tests however, they will have other opportunities with our continual assistance to PRACTICE and finally obtain a HIGH SCORE! Beginning Monday, March 28, 2011 through April 29, 2011, NSBA’s Book Patrol (a group of parent volunteers, licensed teachers, church members, community leaders, guest authors and NSBA’s league members from each participating city) will host a competitive team initiative, which pits Junior High School teams nationwide against each other on the book court where they will be challenged in the areas of Reading, Comprehension and Writing skills. One (1) competition will be held during the spring season. All participating cities within the United States will be invited to join. CHAPTER #1: Participating Junior High Schools in each city enters their basketball team (no less than seven team members must participate) into the NSBA’s Reading and Essay Competition by having their school’s Principal/Assistant Principal or Basketball Head/Assistant Coach complete a registration form online at: nsba2010.com by February 10, 2011. Schools with two (2) basketball teams (girls/boys) are allowed to participate but will be entered as one (1) entry. Registration forms submitted after 12:01am, February 11, 2011 will be void and entered into our next Books B4 Basketball competition (to be announced).CHAPTER #2: NSBA’s Book Patrol conducts a National Books B4 Basketball drawing on March 4, 2011 posting the thirty (30) selected teams per city entered on the NSBA website (nsba2010.com) and notifies participating schools. CHAPTER #3: NSBA selects a titled book for each participating school team (7-15 books per team). Each team has up to 21 days to read the titled book and write an essay about it. Team Captains under supervision of Coaches and school officials (Principal/Asst. Principal) will submit essays to the NSBA Book Patrol for review (must be postmarked no later than April 1, 2011). Book list includes: Fiction and Non Fiction. CHAPTER #4: Participating schools are notified once essays are received. NSBA Book Patrol reviews essays and decides which essays progress to the Semi-finals. All essays submitted are evaluated based on the topic scope, grammar, and vocabulary usage. Students are graded and noted on what they can improve on.CHAPTER #5: Participating schools are notified of their standings. The NSBA Book Patrol reviews the next round of essays and decides the three (3) Final essays. Final winners are placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Final winners are announced on the NSBA websites (nsba2010.com and nsbaproball.org).CONCLUSION: Beginning May 9, 2011 through May 20, 2011, the NSBA Book Patrol will present the winning school’s team member with a tuition Scholarship in the amount of either $1,000 for 1st Place, $500 for 2nd Place or $250 for 3rd Place towards his/her College books. In addition, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place winning school teams receive an NSBA Award Package which includes: 15 NSBA Trophies, Official Warm-up Suits and Autographed Basketball. All participating school teams receive a Books B4 School Participation Plaque and six (6) official NSBA branded basketballs for their school’s basketball team.
